Narrative Writing

I'm taking a class this quarter under a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author. He's an amazing man and writer and teacher.

I'm excited.

I'm wanting to learn and apply myself.

But, I'm also finishing up my application for an MFA program in Creative Photography...

Yeah, we'll see.

Many ways to tell a story, grasshopper. Enjoy the class. You are learning even when you don't know it.

That wouldn't happen to be Barry Siegel, would it?

Yes, Kelsey, it is Barry Siegel. Do you know or know of him?

His daughter is in my Multimedia Reporting class at Arizona, so that's how I know of him. I've read his Pulitzer story--it's pretty amazing.

Small world! He talks about her often and relates her work and assignments and readings as similar to our own. We read his story a few weeks ago, too. The man is even better in person. When graduation comes around, make sure to shake his hand and relate our acquaintance!

Well, she's an undergrad and I'm a graduate student, so I doubt I'll ever meet him but it would have been amazing. That's great that he talks about her--she's pretty good from what I've seen of her work so far. She was one of only two advanced seniors let into our grad-level class. Although oddly enough, as seniors they have so much more experience than we grad students do that we should consider ourselves lucky to be in a class with them. It's so funny the way this happened--it really is a small world, isn't it?
