Recruitment Made Easy

by The Usual Suspect

I've been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I'm just going to say that it's fucking amazing and leave it at that. The amount of Ranger contracts young pups request is going to go through the roof. Everyone's gonna want to be an Army Ranger. Guess we'll be ready for our next eight year bloodbath.

I'm not complaining or condemning the game, its impeccable. I'm just a little concerned with how cool they made war look. So its always been though. I still say that it's in our blood. I'm not justifying it, I'm just saying take a look around, look at the history books.

War isn't going anywhere.

Suspect,

I have a strong suspicion there is away to sign up while playing the game online. You aren't going to get recruits by giving them reality.

Young ones fresh from pep rallies and high school contests are ripe for the picking. Always. As are those who see no other way out of an already hard place.

I wish it were not so. But it does beg the question...when is a volunteer not really a volunteer?

Roughly every twenty years, from the completion of the last one. The military-industrial complex requires it.

Both my children are girls. They grew up with cats, dogs, rabbits, goats, the works. They loved them all, and understood very early the difference between predators and non-predators. As a parent, I had to teach my children that their fellow humans are dangerous. It wasn't so hard to teach them to be wary of people after they realized people are in the predator group.
Humans are an extremely adaptable species. Our behavior is malleable and can be redirected.
We don't have to do everything we do.

Go ahead and condemn the game. It's training the next generation. We are all responsible. z

Hi Ryan,
Just wanted to say thank you for your service. I was hoping you wouldn't mind since you did admit you were a vet the other day. Never played any Call of Duty. But, a while back my son was teaching me how to play Grand Theft Auto. I was really getting into the life of crime, breaking windows with my elbow and stealing cars. I was also enjoying the hell out of shooting people and the occasional knife fight. Very strange...mostly I loved driving like a maniac through the streets of that crazy town. Nothing like getting out all the aggression while playing a video game. God(s) bless you Ryan. Don't get too wrapped up in becoming a Ranger, OK?

Ahh, Suspicious One. War is indeed in our blood. Sad but true. As for tons more Ranger contracts, they gotta pass the course first, as you know and I don't think it's going to get any easier.

As for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, if you think that's realistic get a load of the sequel that's in the works:

It's killer!

I think the games pretty bad ass as well. If the kids who play this game think that if they join the army that their experience will mirror the game then they are moronic and naive. I really don't see a need to condem games like this or a game like grand theft auto. I think a one phrase disclaimer on the case is all that's really needed. In big bold letters THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. I don't think that video game has move of an influence on people then say a movie, but in movies we see shit like this and worse all the time...

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if a game like call of duty has the ability to influence a young mind enough to convince him or her that joining the army is a good idea then i think its fair to assume that had they not been exposed to call of duty then they would have been influenced by something else equally stupid, that they would have been exposed later on down the road.
