Ninja Smoke

by The Usual Suspect

Ol' Suspect here is going underground for a little while, with endeavors unrelated to academics for the time being. Yes I am writing almost daily, and some of it might even see the light of day.

Six months from now, if you read entries about a deposed animal from 2nd ID careening through the streets in an ambulance with the sirens on and thunderous metal music rattling the windows, that means that Plan B is in effect.

Poof.

Sigh.

For those reading, this blog has never been about just myself, or Suspect. This blog is about transitions, namely what it takes to hang up the boots, and slip on a pair of flip flops. Or, to forget about your MOLLE, and proudly fasten a sack of books across your back. Of course, there also needs to be a certain flair in your writing ability... but, I digress. These are the stories of heroes returning from war, from service, from life--and moving on, into the real world, to make something ELSE of themselves, via higher learning.

I grieve that the system has taken down one who could do so well with it, and that it has resorted to this. I want to be optimistic and say that things will work for the best in the end, or even next semester. I hope they will, and Suspect will always be welcome to post his rants here at RtB.

As it stands, this blog is about moving on. Most of us move into some sort of higher education after our service, and that is what the intent here is. With that said, I'm always open to submissions from other veteran writers to discuss their own transitions. There are two "milbloggers" I greatly admire who have open invitations to write for RtB. And while they have graciously declined, due to a heavy workload, that isn't to say that I'm not interested in hearing from others within the community.

Interested in sharing your struggles with the VA? Have a story about lousy, misguided Professors who know nothing about soldiering? Maybe you have some advice or tips for the soon-to-be-schooling that could help them in their transition?
