The Space Between

by The Usual Suspect

Yeah, I'm out and somewhat civilianized, still not trusting in it completely, like at any moment they'll pull the curtain back and yell, "Surprise! We fucking GOT you, man! HAHAHA, go get your gear and get on the bus!"

I'm still not where I need to be, lost in transit, timeline uncertain. Been crashing with some very awesome people, living out of a bag. The whole thing's got a Kerouac On The Road feel to it. Having a wonderful time, but essentially "homeless". Lost at sea without a map or a shred of responsibility. Hell, most people would kill to have what I have right now.

Hakuna matata. Cheers.

Enjoy it while you have it! Complete freedom is a rare and precious thing; all too soon the responsibilities start to pile up until you get tied down before you even realize what has just happened. And yes, I would kill to have what you have right now! I really am jealous. So please, enjoy it for everyone out there who doesn't have the chance :)

Hi Vagabond,
Define "somewhat civilianized", would love to see a picture of the new look! Glad your finding awesome people. It's the not-so-awesome people you have to worry about. It is so good to hear that you are free and clear of the mean green machine. I can't remember what no responsibility feels like...enjoy the hell out of every freakin' moment. God(s) bless you Ryan, you always make me smile.

Are you finding the space between to be a happy place or a scary place or a little bit of both?

“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.”

Hey man! Happy to hear the other shoe finally dropped and you're a civilian again.

Ah, sweet, sweet freedom! Enjoy it. No guilt. You earned it. Once you start at the Univ you'll have to buckle down again, so be a beatnik hippie for a while. Well, heck, you can be a beatnik hippie at school too - a happy thought! Wine, candles, dark rooms full of interesting people - what a gas!!

So many things to explore! Some classes will have more meaning to you than others. Some you've just gotta get done. Big D mentioned Joseph Campbell - if you find a class that includes his views on life/religion, take it. And philosophy - its gonna mean way more to you than the average bear and just might get your dander up.

You've already learned way more than my generation had by the time we got to college. And, like so many who start college after they've got a bit of life under their belts, you'll see more value in having the time to devote to school. This, of course, means that A's are expected ;-)

The jobs and families and responsibilities that come along as we grow older are just part of the framework of life. My motto was always to live in the moment and make memories for my rocking chair days.

So, here I am in the rocking chair days - my time is my own, I'm a tad slower, the joints are a bit rusty. I'm still making memories and ever so happy to have such a large catalogue of them to draw on.

And now, lucky us - We get to enjoy sharing some of your memories as you explore your options and find your path.

Watch out world, here comes Ryan....

Love ya man! ~P~
